Mission Statement

to show how powerful and effective chess education is as a part of education in general. We want to demonstrate to the educational world the value and power of chess, and educate the chess world about the real cultural and educational value of chess as art, science, math, sport, and culture. To expand the presence of chess, and gaming education in math, and in education in general. It would be great to cultivate REAL world-class american born Grandmasters of chess, and to have a world champion with a name like Bob Jones! Chess should be more highly esteemed than football or poker.

Our Business

Chris Goldthorpe has been a full-time dedicated chess professional since 1997. He is not a professional player who teaches on the side, he is a professional chess educator who plays chess on the side.

I have a B.S.E.E. (1996)

As a trained electronics engineer I have a mathematical perspective on many things. I have always had an extreme gift for teaching. In college I was the math tutor everyone wanted despite the fact that I was the most expensive, and a student, while degreed faculty offered tutoring for less money or even for free.

I have played chess since about age 3 but for many years did not take an interest in reaching higher skill levels. In 1997 people kept asking me to teach them chess and I seemed to draw a crowd wherever I taught anyone even if I was speaking quietly to just 1 student in a bookstore. Chess became my passion. Since that day I knew that it was my purpose to educate via chess!
