School Programs

The educational value of chess lies in the fact that it rewards effort and always provides increased reward for increased effort at every level. Every human intellectual tool can help a person to win, so the search for improvement inspires us to develope every such tool we possess and to try to discover and apply others. Math, psychology, memory, analogy, and character are but a few.

It is wrong for a school not to offer a chess program and represent itself as a good school!

Chess Benefits

The benefits to the character, attitude and mentality of a student of chess are such that they should be seen to be believed. Schools which have REAL chess programs have real benefits. Schools benefit by the recognition of the fact that they know and appreciate, and act upon this. Chess players are thinkers who take responsibility for their actions and do not have a habit of blaming bad luck. Various organizations from Dr.Van DeGroot to modern times have documented this well. Perhaps it could be argued that those of great intellect are drawn to it ( they are ) but chess does help to build great mental powers. That is, if it is done properly.

  • chesschesschess.com will set the price of the program and will be paid directly prior to the students first appearance in the class.
  • We will be responsible for all advertising which will be approved by the school at their discretion .
  • The school should provide a clean orderly quiet room with sufficient furniture ( including rectangular tables)

  • Neither chesschesschess.com or any agent thereof will be responsible for the payment for background searches, drug testing, or any other screening requested by the school. The instructor will cooperate with such requirements.
  • All contracts must be executed prior to scheduling of instructor services.
  • All contracts shall be for a minimum of 6 sessions.
  • Sessions lost due to hurricanes etc: First week will be at the expense of chesschesschess.com provided either a hurricane warning has been issued, or the public schools close on the date in question, afterward further sessions will not be made up. If a session is longer than 10 weeks We will make up a maximum of 2 sessions ( same terms ) additional weeks lost due to such acts of nature will not be made up, rescheduled, refunded, or otherwise compensated.
  • Student will supply their own equipment, at their own expense, which must meet the approval of the instructor.
  • Students who do not bring a well maintained complete chess set may be limited in thier participation on such an ocassion.
  • Instructors will, at the request of the school, be responsible for reporting absence of students expected to be in the group, but will not be responsible for tracking them down and rounding them up and escorting them to the classroom where they will be taught.
  • School will sign binding contract not to hire the instructor in the future ( following 24 months of first day scheduled ) without a contract executed between us and the school, before services are rendered.
  • Other terms may be somewhat negotiable.

Only the best schools who truly recognize the place of chess in education will have one of my programs at their school.

These schools are willing to do what is required to have a REAL chess program! These schools will be extraordinary in all respects. Their students will all distinguish themselves honorably!

Who We Are

Chris Goldthorpe has been arranging school chess programs for a decade and knows how to get MUCH more educational value to the students, retain them, influence them in healthy directions, and get them to reach for the VERY best in them in all things they do!

There is a BIG difference between an informal chess club for amusement, and a REAL chess program!

Yes as you can see we do have a few rules about how, and with whom, and under what circumstances we will contract with a school, to have a chess program. This is ultimately to the advantage of the students and the schools and serves to maintain a high level of quality and uniformity. All background search documentation will be made available upon request for an instructor to be placed into a school.

Instructors operate as private contractors and are not free to negotiate directly with the institution they are working with.

They are also not bound to work beyond the immediate session they have contracted for.

Schools wishing to run a program starting in the fall would be advised to make contact by early August at the latest. After September 1st the avaialblity of instructors begins to decrease.

The information provided here is a informational guide and is subject to change without notice.  We will of course honor and abide by all written contracts executed.
